Christmas @ PHCC

The angel Gabriel announcing to Mary that she will give birth to a son.

Christmas at PHCC was celebrated joyously. Amazingly, more than 90 people turned up, both regulars and visitors. A 35-member strong choir sang passionately in both English and Mandarin. Mr HT Long, the Elvis of Malaysia, belted out his rendition of Elvis oldies. To our pleasant surprise, a group of his loyal fans were at hand to give him their full support. The audience enjoyed themselves and many were moved to tap along with their fingers and toes. Jacqueline, a recent addition to PHCC, shared a testimony of how real God has been to her.

The celebration ended with a sumptuous buffet dinner. Although the turnout was beyond expectation, there was food for everyone. There was an anxious moment as the food was catered for only 60. The day was saved with Pizza delivery! The children were doubly excited as each of them received a bag of Christmas goodies.

When we talk of Christmas, we always think of a decorated and lighted tree with presents surrounding it...but do we really need a tree to celebrate Christmas? Apparently not!

We had a wonderful Christmas celebration at David & Liz's house on 16 Dec. It also marked the last meeting of the year for our Lifegroup.

1 thing we must have to celebrate christmas is CAROLS! We sang our hearts out...whether in tune or out of tune...we sang!

And we had a short time of reflection of the goodness of God, giving thanks & praise to Him for taking care of each one of us in 2011.

David shared the significance Christmas holds for him as it was during this time that he became a christian in 2002.

Indeed we are grateful to God, and praise and thank Him for who He is, and that He is always there for us...although it is in His Time that He works things out for us.

Consider Psalms 150. In just 6 verses, the psalmist said 'PRAISE'...13 times!

What we praise, we treat with greater respect...reverence...awe... ya?
So...the more we praise God, the more we will find to praise about Him!
And the more we praise God, the more our attitude will change, to be more positive about the things around us.

⁶ Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!

Children's Holiday Programme 2011

12 children signed up for the 3 days holiday program. Besides the 5 children from our 2nd Character Building class (held on Sundays), the rest were new children from the Putra Heights community.

This year’s theme… Amazing Adventure with Amazing Kids… concentrated on the salvation plan of God starting with a look at the Word of God. The titles were:
1) The Treasure Map – The Word of God
2) The Only Life Boat – Salvation plan of God
3) Journey through the Sea - Water Baptism and the Church
4) The Code of the King – Rules for Living
5) A Kingdom of Gold – Heaven

Refreshments and lunch for the 3 days were well provided by a group of dedicated church members. Helpers were around to help with the different activities.

On the first day, a youth (one of the children's sister) taught the children how to bake cup cakes. This was followed by a chocolate-making session!!

On the second day, we made a trip to the park for a Treasure Hunt. But, the rain came down...and hindered the children from hunting for all the treasure items. We (all 19 of us - children and helpers) found shelter at a nearly gazebo and had our picnic there while waiting for the rain to stop. Despite the setback, the children enjoyed the outing to the park and had lots of fresh air outdoors.

On the last day, there was a tea party with the parents at 3pm. Out of the 7 families, the parents of 5 families turned up to witness the presentation of songs by the children, and enjoyed some games together with the teachers and children. The children were all presented with a goodies pack. There were 4 winners for the "Most Stickers Collected" for attendance, memory verses, and craft work. The teachers too were acknowledged with a gift each.

Overall it has been a very good opportunity to share the love of God with the children. It has given us a better understanding of the spiritual level of the children and this will assist us to prepare more relevant and appropriate lessons for the Sunday evening classes.

MY APPRECIATION AND A BIG THANK YOU to all the parents who have faith in us to send their children to join this year’s CHP, the team of dedicated helpers led by Kathryn for the refreshments and lunches, all the teachers-helpers for the song presentation, ice breakers, and games, and the children for their obedience and cooperation during these 3 days together. Most of all, to God be the glory for blessing us much in everything. It was a wonderful time with the children and I believe they all enjoyed the 3 days of learning, fun and good food.

MISSION TRIP TO GEMAS

The 1st PHCC Mission Trip was a day trip to the Charis Youth Centre, a drug rehabilitation centre in Broga, to visit the boys there and then to bring some cheer to the old folks at Rumah Love and Care Kajang on July 16th. This 1st one-day mission trip inspired the members to prepare for another challenging trip for ministry.

Connections were made with a church, First Assembly of God, Gemas to have us minister in their English/Chinese service on Saturday night and a Bahasa service on the following Sunday morning.

On Saturday morning (November 5th) , 10 of us in 2 cars set out for a day outing to Malacca before proceeding to Gemas for our 2nd PHCC Mission Trip.

We had an interesting morning looking at the vast array of shops with colourful trinkets & interesting items at Jonker Street, Malacca. After enjoying great snacks and a sumptuous lunch, we proceeded to Gemas.

It took about 2 ½ hours to get to Gemas. Gemas is a small township and we were able to make our way around easily.

For the evening bi-lingual service, worship was led by our 1st time song leader Tee Li, with Elizabeth as back up, Yee May as guitarist and Ai Ching as soundman. A great worship prepared the people's heart for the sermon by Pastor Christopher who shared on "Faith in Action" (and translated to Chinese by Tee Li). The service concluded with prayers for the people at the altar and Rev. Stephen Tah, the church pastor, prayed for his members who were water baptised recently.

The next morning, we prepared for the Bahasa service which was attended by many East Malaysian civil servants and some Indonesians. It was a great experience worshipping together in Bahasa. David Chiang gave an inspiring sermon on the "Power of the Resurrection" in Bahasa. People responded to the message and came to the altar for prayers.

We had a quick, simple lunch before proceeding back to Kuala Lumpur for the usual evening service at PHCC. At the service, the team members shared on their ‘1st time’ experiences in ministry which encouraged and built up their faith further.

There were requests for more of such mission trips where members can discover and develop their giftings to serve in different capacities. Praise the Lord for opportunities to serve Him!

About The 2nd Class On Characer Building

From July 3rd to September 4th, 2011, the 2nd Character Building Class, another continuing series of teaching some character traits to reinforce children’s behavior to promote social learning and interaction was conducted with the registration of 10 children.

The Character traits taught were: Attentiveness, Controlling Anger, Fairness, Cheating, The Power of Words, Stewardship, Self-esteem, Dependability, Prejudice, and Respect.

In each class session the word meaning and application of each character trait was explained and discussed with the children. Many found the lessons very intriguing as this seemed to be the children’s first time in learning such in-depth explanation of a character trait. Questions were asked to provoke the children to think through situations in their life in relation to the character traits.

After the session of explanation, some handouts were given to the children to do to reinforce the teaching. At times there are craft works that helped the children to be agile with their minds and hands.

Overall, the children attended the classes very regularly and some even scored many points through Attendance, Memory verses, Handouts, Art & Crafts, Bringing New Friends. Awards and gifts were presented at a party gathering on the 4th September as a conclusion of the 2nd Children Character Building class at a house in Putra Heights. The children and their families turned up for this special event along with the church’s life group, church members and some invited friends.

Congratulations to all the children for the successful completion of this class and hope to see you enroll for the next coming 3rd Children Character Building Class – Learning from the Animals from October 2 – December 11, 2011.

Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth's rite of Passage?

His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone.
He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun shine through it. He cannot cry out for help to anyone.

Once he survives the night, he is a MAN.

He cannot tell the other boys of this experience, because each lad must come into manhood on his own.

The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him. Maybe even some human might do him harm. The wind blew the grass and earth, and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could become a man!
Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he removed his blindfold.

It was then that he discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him.
He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son from harm.

We, too, are never alone.
Even when we don't know it, God is watching over us. Sitting on the stump beside us.
When trouble comes, all we have to do is reach out to Him.

The day passed so quickly. The memories must be flooding the minds of the dads as they recall their kids as just babes. For some, it must've been with much joy, pride & gratefulness in their hearts that their children are now grown... and some even with kids of their own!

And for those who weren't dads but were a father figure to a child...it's your day too!
You could have been an uncle...a big brother...caring for a child without a dad.

We thank God He has watched over you & your family all these years...and its sheer joy when you know your children are walking in the ways of the Lord.

To see why tithing is a blessing so that we will change our attitude & begin to appreciate God for commanding us to tithe in order for us to be a blessing.

1. The Principle Of First Fruits
Exodus 13:2 - The LORD said to Moses, “Consecrate to me every firstborn male. The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether human or animal.”

A. Taught in the Old Testament - Every 1st born man or animal belonged to the Lord

B. An Act Of Faith - Give 1st to God. Samuel was born & given to the Lord

C. For The House Of God - Priest & Levites have equality among their brothers.
Exodus 23:19 - “Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God.”

2. Tithing
A. The Old Testament Institution
Abram tithed to Melchizedek, King of Salem.
Genesis 14 :18-20 - Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

Hebrew 7:1-10 - This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.” Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever. Just think how great he was: Even the patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the plunder! Now the law requires the descendants of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people—that is, from their fellow Israelites—even though they also are descended from Abraham. This man, however, did not trace his descent from Levi, yet he collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. And without doubt the lesser is blessed by the greater. In the one case, the tenth is collected by people who die; but in the other case, by him who is declared to be living. One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham, because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.

Jacob pledged to tithe to God
Genesis 28:22 - and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.”

B. New Testament Grace
Everything we have comes and belongs to the Lord
Tithe no longer a tenth but 100%

3. The Principle Of Blessings
A. Tithing is a Principle of "Testing God"
God wants us to try Him
Malachi 3:10 - “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

B. Where's Your Heart?
Matthew 6:21 - For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

CONCLUSION
Tithing is not asking for your money.
It is a blessing to you and the community.
Tithing is a blessing - so, let's do it!

Perseverance

What is Perseverance?

Its being persistent...continuing despite problems or difficulties & not giving up easily.

There needs to be commitment, lots of hard work & endurance...& to try again and again.

You show perseverance when you put perseverance into action with the following examples:

1. Try a new sport that is very difficult but you don't give up.

2. Have missed a week of school due to illness but you work hard to catch up.

3. Save money & make sacrifices to buy something.

4. Study & work hard to improve your grades in school.

5. When something doesn't work right, you try again & again to get it working.

6. Always finish what you start.

7. Don't give up on a difficult job or situation.

The way we cope with situations below - is it cool or not so cool ?

Escape or avoid your problems not so cool
Blame yourself not so cool
Get help if you need it cool!
Blame other people not so cool
Try to make it better cool!
Write about your feelings cool!

In His Time

Scripture Text: Nehemiah 2:1-10

(Background as per Chapter 1:

Nehemiah was living in Babylon; born in exile; under Babylonian Captivity.

a. After 70 years of captivity, the Babylonian Captivity is replaced by Persian Prosperity.

b. Nehemiah is given a great job as the King's cup-bearer,
an important/prestigious position.

c. Nehemiah is living comfortably in Babylon, enjoying Persian Prosperity.

d. Nehemiah was a man of compassion.

e. His burden led him to fast & pray. )

1. God Prepares Nehemiah For The Work

Scripture often teaches us that
'A Delayed Answer Does Not Indicate An Unwilling God'.

God is working in that time of waiting.
Waiting is Preparation time.
a) During this time, Nehemiah was learning to Pray & Trust
b) His Burden became a Vision
c) God is working in our hearts - strengthening our Faith

Isaiah 40:31 ~ But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint.
Result: RENEWED STRENGTH

Psalm 29:14 ~ Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!
Result: STRENGTH FOR DIFFICULT TIMES

Psalm 62:5-6 ~ My soul, wait silently for God alone,
For my expectation is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense; I shall not be moved
Result: OBTAIN SECURITY

Lamentations 3:25-26 ~ The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,
To the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and quietly
Result: FIND DIRECTION

WHEN YOU WAIT ON THE LORD IN PRAYER,
YOU ARE NOT WASTING YOUR TIME; YOU ARE INVESTING IT.

a) God is preparing both you and your circumstances so that His purposes will be accomplished.
b) Not only when we wait the Lord gives Strength - Hope - Direction
c) We see our problem in the light of His Provision

2. God Provides The Opportunity
a) His burden was growing to the point where it was finally noticeable
b) God was preparing the King!
Instead of being offended by Nehemiah's countenance, he was concerned!

Reasons For Waiting:
Gave time for a plan to be developed - like a child in the womb grow & develops
Sometimes the vision needs time to grow & develop - before being birthed or shared

a) During those 4 months of waiting, he had thought the matter through and knew exactly how he would approach the project.

His reply to the King could be summarised to 2 requests:
"Send me!" (Neh. 2:4-6) and "Give me!" (v.7-10)

b) Nehemiah had a plan that involved a time frame & the provision needed.
He needed letters of introduction that would guarantee safe travel & hospitality between Susa & Jerusalem. He also requested letters of authority that would provide the materials needed for the construction of buildings and walls.

Result v.8-9 ->And the King granted them to me according to the good hand of my God upon me.

Philippians 4:19 ~ And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

All of Nehemiah's needs were supplied
a) Letters of endorsement for passage;
Materials for provision

b) The King even gave Nehemiah something he didn't even ask!
v.9 tells us he sent captains from his army to give protection

Passage / Provision / Protection

Ephesians 3:20 ~ Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us

c) Notice Nehemiah's perception of the favour he received.
Neh 2:8 ~ And the king granted them to me according to the good hand of my God upon me.

Waiting on the Lord:
* Prepares us
* Prepares those that God wants to use to help us
* Provides time for God to unfold a plan

3. God Prospers His People

"LET US RISE UP AND BUILD...GOD...WILL PROSPER US" (v.17-20)

The word "prosper" in Hebrew means to push forward, to be profitable or to break out.
This is what we are made to do.

Nehemiah knew the burden given by God had given him the opportunity, the resources.
God had given him the plan & given him the people.

When you know that your burden is from God...and you've confirmed it through prayer...and God's people are initially behind you...then you know that God is in charge.

The only thing in question is OUR OBEDIENCE.

Nehemiah knew that it was God's will for them to rebuild the wall according to the plans that he had made...he knew that God would prosper them. But he knew that God would only prosper them if they were obedient in doing the work.

In v.20 he said ".....therefore we His servants will arise and build."

When God gives you a burden for PHCC church, don't take it lightly.
~ Take it prayerfully
~ Take it reverently
~ Take it willingly
~ Take it under His authority

He is in control and when you are obedient to Him, He will prosper you.

ALCOHOL is a mind-altering drug.
It is absorbed directly into the blood-stream & rapidly affects the brain.

The results of alcoholism and drinking includes traffic accidents, child abuse, broken homes, loss of jobs & work capacities, lowering of moral standards, disintegration of one's personality and emotional instability.

The BIBLE does not command us to abstain totally from alcohol BUT there are biblical principles to be applied....
1) the example of our lives (1 Timothy 4:12)
2) keeping others from stumbling (1 Corinthians 10:31-33)
3) using self-control (Galatians 5:23, Proverbs 25:28)
4) taking care of our bodies (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

As a christian, we have to be sensitive to those around us - if we drink, will it stumble another person who is looking at you? Would your action please God?

A Prayer ~
Lord, during these times, may I be an example to others in my lifestyle. Help me to be sensitive to the weaknesses of others so I won't cause someone to stumble. May I use discipline & self-control in all areas of my life. Amen.

Of all a mother can do, giving her life totally & completely to our Lord Christ
will have the greatest impact on her children.

A mom sold out to the Lord Jesus is a mom who will display a life that
demonstrates everything good & right. Because of this, she will instill
in her children a need to love the Lord, to walk in His way and fulfill His calling.

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.

The result will be kids who:
1. Seek to discover this Jesus whom Mom loves & serves so well
2. Find their purpose in life
3. Who make good decisions

Proverb 20:11 -Even a child is known by his deeds, by whether what he does is pure and right.

Proverb 31:28 - Her children rise up & call her blessed; her husband also, & he praises her.

Not only does praising the woman who fears the Lord feel good; it also honours God
Therefore, when we praise a woman who fears the Lord, we praise God.

Praise her...while you have her.

I. LOVE YOUR WORK

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving" - Col 3:23-24

According to Bill Hybels, in his article The Christian in the Marketplace, ..."all experience dignity as they commit themselves to their labor. A lot of our self worth comes from our job"

* How much you get out of a job, depends on how much you put into it.
* Do away with Gossip, Murmuring and Complaining.
* Do away with Laziness and Thieving

II. Love Your Colleagues

There are 4 kinds of "work bones" in the work place.
> The WISH BONES spend their time wishing & dreaming
> The JAW BONES who do all the talking but very little else
> The KNUCKLE BONES who knock everything else anyone else is trying to do
> The BACK BONES who shoulder the load and do the work

# Your work is an opportunity for witness
# Your workplace is your harvest field.

"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." - Luke 10:2

III. Love Your "Master"

> Decide who it is you work for.

"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." - Matthew 6:24

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." - Col 3:23 - 24

> Masters treat your workers fairly

Many today are restless, searching for their fulfillment & identity.

Some hope to find a job that will provide the status & independence they crave. Others turn to sexual relationships to satisfy their inner longings. More and more are leaving their spouses and children to start a new life and 'find themselves'.

An old french proverb -> Marriage is like a besieged fortress; those within wish to get out and those without wish to get in."

Many men and women in today's society are filled with dissatisfaction, frustration, conflicts, emptiness, boredom, competition, inadequacy, guilt and hurts.

A clue is given to show what is lacking in our lives.
It is written in Jeremiah 2:13 :

¹³ “For my people have done two evil things:
They have abandoned me — the fountain of living water.
And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all!

With topsy-turvy values, our fulfillment cannot be found in our circumstances but in the attitude of our hearts.

As we return to God as our source of fulfillment, we see him meet this need in our lives where we are.

A life of fulfillment begins by recognising our purpose for living.

Do you know why you were created?

The chief purpose of man is to glorify God & enjoy Him forever.

I. WHAT IS OBEYING?

Doing what you are told when you are told.

To follow the commands, restrictions, wishes, instructions of those in authority.

Dutifully complying with the commands, orders, or instructions of one in authority.

II. WHY DO PEOPLE OBEY?

They obey because there are consequences :

- Judgment

- Punishment

- Reward

- Fear

- Honor/respect/love

- Gratitude

III. WHAT IS AUTHORITY? TO WHOM SHOULD WE OBEY?

Authority figures: The people who make and enforce the rules.

Eg. Policemen, teachers, parents, pastors…. GOD

We OBEY GOD means we repent our sins and we accept and believe what God is telling us (the gospel)

Jesus, the Son of God, gave His life on the Cross.

The Son of God obeyed so that we all can be saved and delivered from judgment.

Because He obeyed, we all have salvation and eternal life.

If He did not obey, we will all die an eternal death.

Let's thank Jesus for His OBEDIENCE!

Dear Ps Judy,

Thank you PHCC and the lovely God's people!

Words cannot express the excitement of my children each Sunday evening. Amber, 11 years old and Kyra who is 6, would eagerly remind me of the character building lessons. Even I, have been blessed, by joining in the adult service while they are in class.

One would expect the children to be tired by evening as they start their Sundays as early as 9.00 am, attending church and Sunday School at EFC Gospel Centre USJ 1 until almost 2.00 pm. In addition to that, they have also been happy to forego their weekly swimming treats just to attend the lessons at PHCC. When I asked if they would like to attend future programmes held at the same time and sacrifice their swimming, their answer was a huge YES!

Under the care and guidance of the caring teachers of PHCC, the lessons have impacted them significantly. The sisters mention and refer to the values they learn even as they play or spend time together. They have even encouraged frends to join them.

Just the other day, I was amused when Kyra thanked Amber for helping her and then turned and told me that her ''che che'' is humble :) She is also trying to draw like her sister because she 'must try to be creative' ! Amber, who is much older, is able to recall and relate her lessons to her daily activities. She is very much inspired by the stories of courage and making wise choices.

She makes conscious effort to learn her memory verses and is clearly motivated by the encouragement she receives weekly. The sisters are even more closer to each other now because of the additional quality time spent learning together. Sunday is a ''stress free'' day and produces best results from learning!

I am grateful to PHCC for the initiatives to bring the children closer to the Lord. My children have benefitted from the many programmes organised. However, we as parents, must also do our part.

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." ( Matt 19:14 )

It is clearly the work of the Lord, as I watch and enjoy how my children, despite their mischief sometimes, grow in positive ways.

Parents are stewards of their children, entrusted by God for their well being and for the kind of persons they would grow up to be. In short, we have to be willing to make worldly sacrifices and trust that God will take care of our children.

Praise the Lord!

# Luke 19:40 - Jesus' response: "If they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."

# We must not keep quiet about Jesus.
We must make all the noise so that people will know who Jesus is!

Choosing

There is a great emphasis today on one's self-esteem and developing a sense of worth.
This is good as GOD definitely thinks each of us are of great value and worth.

Proverbs here touches on an area that helps us develop strong self-esteem & good work habits.

Train our children to be responsible & develop good work habits.
Encourage them to excel in their areas of interest that they may feel their worth.
It could even be in games, languages or music.

Many seniors tend to lose their self-worth & feel useless once they retire.
No longer earning & contributing, they think their life has no more value.
This does not need to happen!
Remain active and look outward instead of inward.
Extend your assistance to so many others out there that need your help.

Colossians 3
¹⁷ And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

A Prayer ~
Lord, you desire excellence in my work. Help me always to do my best. May I not indulge in laziness or sloppy work because I know this does not glorify you. Help me to teach my children the value of work well done.

Gifts, money, flowers, love, care

What happens when we give?

The other person is happy.
We are happy and feel good too.
God is happy and pleased with us.
We help to meet the needs of others.

Giving will bless us as we bless others.

2. CONVICTION about God’s Character.

Nehemiah called God “Lord.”

He recognized the Lord as his master – in verse 6, he refers to himself as God’s servant.

3. CONFESSION of sin.

Three key ingredients in his confession of sin.

Ø Intensity.

Ø Honesty.

4. CONFIDENCE in God’s Promises.

Are you as confident of God’s promises as Nehemiah was?

Do you see the progression in Nehemiah’s prayer?

His concern about the problem led him to brokenness.

While he was weeping and fasting, he expressed his conviction about God’s character.

As he focused on the greatness and awesomeness of His holy God, he was quickly reminded of his own wickedness and therefore cried out in confession.

After owning his role in the nation’s depravity, he prayed boldly and with confidence in God’s promises.

This then leads him to a commitment to get involved.

5. COMMITMENT to get involved

"You can do more than pray after you have prayed, but you cannot do more than pray until you have prayed." A.J. Gordon

Where are you in this prayer process right now?

• Are you concerned about your problems?

• Do you have a conviction about God’s holy character?

• Are you ready to confess your sins?

• Do you have confidence in God’s promises?

• Are you ready to make a commitment to get involved in God’s kingdom work?

Our young people need to be prepared for SEXUAL TEMPTATIONS and warned of their consequences. What about CHASTITY in adults? Well....the same principles apply.

The Absolute MUSTS are:

# Know what God's Word teaches regarding moral purity

# Use the Word during temptation

# Make a deep commitment of faithfulness to your spouse and GOD before you are tempted.

Consider making a personal pledge to sexual purity with humility and in dependence on God's grace. We must believe God loves us and does not want us to get pregnant out of wedlock, suffer sexually transmitted diseases, or get destroyed by Satan.

Abstain from ~

Fornication = premarital sex (singles)

Adultery = unfaithful sex (married)

MEMORY VERSE:

2 TIMOTHY 2:15 - We should work well, so we can be proud of our work.

Creativity is the ability to see something in a new way..... the ability to produce something new through imaginative skill.

It is defined as the tendency to generate or recognise ideas.

God created the sun, the moon, the stars, people (us), the world, the sea, land, etc.

God also used a creative way to announce the birth of Jesus to a group of shepherds out in the field ... by sending angels to visit some shepherds.

How can we be CREATIVE in helping people?
Perhaps we can send them an email or a sms to encourage them when they are feeling down, or visit them, or bring them some gifts...even make a card to cheer them up...or cook for them when they are not well...maybe send them some flowers... or help your dad to wash the car, help your mum to take out the rubbish.....etc.

I. What Is Friendship?

1Sam18:1 - one in spirit ... loved him as himself

1Sam18:3 - covenant ... loved him as himself

Friendship is "the knitting of one soul with another so that both become stronger and better by virtue of their relationship" - Selwyn Hughes

What is a true friend?

A true friend is one who is knitted to your soul by God for the purpose of helping you fulfill your calling.

II. Why Is Friendship Significant?

(1Sam19:1-3; 2Sam1:26)

3 Reasons :

a) Influence

> Friends often have a greater influence on us than our own convictions

> Friends often have a greater influence on us than our family members

> Friends often have a greater influence over us than God

b) Synergy

> Genuine friendship brings about a FUSION

c) Change

> Friends can make life-lasting CHANGE in you - either for good or for bad!

> 2Corinthians6:14 - "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers"

> "If you sleep with dogs, you are going to get fleas" - A Southern Proverb

III) How Do We Cultivate Healthy Friendships?

Safeguard your friend's interest over your own

Love your friend enough to confront him/her about anything you feel is not right

Sermon Outline:

Paul draws the picture of the church as a body. A body consists of many parts but there is in it an essential unity!

1. (v12-20) There is unity—What the “I” is to the body, Christ is to the church. We need each other! We are not isolated in the body of Christ.

2. (v21-26) There is sympathy—God seeks us to be, not independent, but “Interdependent”. When a part of your body declares independence from the other parts... it starts to die! When a part hurts, everything in the body hurts!

3. (v27-31) There is diversity—”You are the body” God uses our hands to do His work, our feet to run upon His errands, our voice to speak for Him. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord (v5)

4. Pray for spiritual unity in the church and in homes.

Prayer by Jesus in John 17:20-23 for the church

“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; “that they all be one, as You, Father are in Me and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me that they be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me and loved them as You have loved Me”.

With activities like singing, story-telling, artwork, memory verse and games, it is hoped that each child will be instilled with the attributes that will help them to grow to be men and women of good character.

Lesson Objective:
Children need to have faith in God, parents, teachers, and those who are close to them.

Lesson Learnt:
Faith is believing even when you do not see
When you trust someone, you will have faith in them.
Disbelief is the opposite of faith.

Hi, welcome to Putra Heights City Church website.

The church had her inaugural service on 10 January 2010. The Church was started through the enquiry of the public coming to attend the events of the Putra Heights Community Center. The events of the PH Community Center were initiated by Subang Jaya Assembly of God. PH Community Center has been in existence for the last two years and has carried out numerous community projects. PH City Church was born with the objective of meeting the spiritual needs of the community. On 4 April 2010, we had a wonderful Easter celebration with an attendance of about 50 people. We trust you will come to visit and find your liking there. The service time is at 5:00pm on Sundays. Children Ministry is also at 5:00pm simultaneously. The whole family can come to join the service.
